This page has been designed to inform you of activities which I have enjoyed taking part in throughout my time at both school and university until the present day. All of which have helped enhance my skills in the particular areas as well as contributing to mu current interests. | ||
MENU | Tennis
I first began enjoying tennis as a hobby whilst at primary school where we used to play indoor tennis in order to learn the basic skills required. Teachers made it enjoyable for us as young children by incorporating skills into fun games, a good way of introducing us to the game. Once I was then at senior school, I joined Brentwood School's tennis team in which we played during the summer months, competing against other schools in tournaments. As this developed a strong interest into the sport for me, I then went on outside of school to have tennis coaching at the local sports centre, where my skills were improved further and I played matches against other pupils. Since joining university I am no longer part of a tennis team, however I do regularly play against friends in my sparetime in order to keep practising and as a way of relaxing and for my own amusement as it is one of my favourite sports to play. |

Music
I first began taking piano lessons whilst still at primary school. I really enjoyed developing a new skill and found it amusing to learn how to play tunes I recognised, and enjoyed entertaining friends and family. I started taking exams in order to feel like I was developing further rather than just playing for pleasure in my spare time. I continued to learn and take further exams until I reached grade 5, where I have since stopped taking exams although still play for leisure on my piano at home. Learning one musical instrument and being successful in exams, scoring marks which led to Distinctions and Merits, I then decided to try out a new instrument whilst at senior school which was the saxophone. Already having good musical knowledge helped me to quickly pick up this second instrument and I soon started taking exams on which I reached grade 6. As another extra curricular activity I was part of the Brentwood school choir, in which we regularly took part in performances in the local cathedral. This encouraged me to develop my singing skills and take lessons in order to achieve some grades, so I reached grade 4 before I left the school. |

Charity
In order to help worthwhile causes raise money, I have taken part in various fundraising events. When I was younger, I took part in a couple of charity fashion shows in aid of the NSPCC, where myself and a friend modelled bridesmaids dresses on the catwalk at a ladies fundraising dinner. Since then I have also taken part in many charity walks, a majority being for the Breakthrough Breast Cancer Charity. I enjoy walking and the atmosphere during is emotional yet satisfying as you know you are helping an extremely good cause. Many people I know have been affected by this awful illness so it is definately worthwhile. As prevously mentioned, one of my favourite pastimes is baking cakes and I incorporate this into helping out charities by baking cakes and donating them to school bazaars and fates, which are raising money. As well as this, a friend has held a couple of coffee and cake mornings in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief, for which I have made large amounts of delicious cakes, which have been on sale during the morning and helped towards raising more money. |

Lamda Speech & Drama
During my time at school I also enjoyed taking part in Speech & Drama classes where we used to recite poetry and extracts from well known plays. As well as taking lessons for enjoyment, I managed to successfully pass exams, meaning I developed my speaking skills helping to improve my public speaking. I thoroughly enjoyd these lessons, as I have always been a reader of poetry in my leisuretime as well as reading lots of novels, which I find a relaxing activity. These lessons and exams taken also encouraged me to join the drama club at school, from which I then was given the opportunity to take part in many of the school productions. My favourite being 'The Pirates Of Penzance'. Although my part in drama has now stopped since leaving school, I am still a regular visiter of the theatre, as I thoroughly enjoy watching performances of both plays and musicals. I often go the the West End in London to see the latest productions, most recently seeing the play entitled 'The Rise And Fall Of Little Voice' which was highly dramatic, although I also enjoy watching lively entertaining musicals, such as Hairspray, Grease and Oliver. |
